Which sucks because she went off on me in gym today because we were doing something retarded in gym and my team was playing his. Then she got pissed at me because I�wasnapos;t walking with him, I was walking with people like Harinder and�Pat that I�actually talk to. But today I caught him looking at me in art :] AndAndAnd lunch was funny as hell. I donapos;t feel like typing it all out so Iapos;ll break it into small words. Yeah :D So anywho, the rest of the day was kinda boring, besides the fact that I might be going to see Quarantine with Kayla, Marie and like everyone I�sit with at lunch. Well, after nearly 7 years at my job at Innovative Media, I was laid off on Friday. It was very cordial and was purely for financial reasons (a few others were let go as well). Still, these are tough times and I need the money and it was definately disconceritng thinnking of the uncertainty. I was a bit worried and was thinking about some long, rambling, emo-esque post here about how sad it is and ow terriible i feel and this sucks and itapos;s not fair, blah blah blah.

Well then I thought about it. Decided it would not be a good idea, and instead decided to find a job. I start at Dockside Canvas on Monday as their new designer for more money than I was making at Innovative.

So... That was easy.

I will miss having access to some of the toys at IM, but Iapos;m sure DC will have some cool toys of their own Also, I left IM on very good terms and so will be able to go to them for anything I need.

We shall see....

*This is my entry for Live Journal Idol week 4-� please note embarrassing myself for all the internet/world to view...sigh.

It all started when I was younger and living with my mother.� I should probably explain who my mother is, or what she is like, but I think once you read this story, youapos;ll understand it.� (And mom, sorry if youapos;re reading this).�

My brother and I used to go shopping with my mother and she, always being the socialite that she is, always stopped to talk to someone that she knew.� After being there for what seemed like hours, talking to this person, we would leave the store saying "Mom, who was that lady you were talking to?"� Her answer was always the same..."You know, I think she used to be the so and so doing the thing that you and your brother were in when you were little."�

Later in life, I knew that she had NO�idea who that person was, or just was embarrassed later...but I learned from the master.

I end up sometimes doing that as well.� Just recently at a marketing seminar, I met a really nice woman that I clicked with, who was new to being an entrepreneur and I wanted to see her at the next event, which was a few weeks later.� A few weeks go by, and my husband said, "Hey, I think thatapos;s her", so I go over, and I say hello.� Nice big smile, "Hey, how are you??"� To realizing that it wasnapos;t that same person.�

But, I think in the long run when I do this to people that I�donapos;t know, I end up meeting and networking with, and sometimes, I�even end up making friends with.

I�mean, I did meet a good girlfriend of mine on the bus, MBTA in Boston, I had met a boyfriend of mine on the T with his mother (Hi, Frank if youapos;re reading this...) , and I met my future brother in law at a concert.� Also, now that Iapos;m on Live Journal, you never know who you are going to meet and know all ready.�

Once, I even met a woman who looked just like me.�

The hardest part I think now, is to know which child is yours....thatapos;s even better.� Once, at a train show, my then three year old was wearing a jacket and "Thomas" shirt, and then all of a sudden, I�said, "Come on honey, we have to go now," I turn to face him, and itapos;s not my child, but the woman who was standing next to us...same jacket, same shirt, different kid.

Ah well, thatapos;s what makes life interesting.

Beau bent over and snorted a line.

"Anyways, where the fuck are we going to go now to get wasted? Will we have to start doing it from home? Omigod? Does this mean we have to get that wastless dealer back?"

The boy looked a bit taken aback.
"Yeah heapos;s fine. Said he was coming to Littledarklight tonight. Didnapos;t see him though.
"Erm, Hello, Kitty? Can I talk to you?"
"Well just as long as heapos;s not fucking with you. Iapos;ve heard about that boy." Beau remarked.
"Oh, and what have you heard about him?" Kitty turned to Beau.
"Heapos;s part of the scene. You know that as well as me. What does that tell you?"

"Whatever babes. Iapos;ma grab us some drinks." Beau got up and walked past the boy. The boy looked at her walk by and turned back to Kitty.
"Hey Kitty, why are you ignoring me?" The boy said.
Kitty looked into space, not acknowledging the boyapos;s existence.
"Fine. If thatapos;s the way you want to be then be it. Donapos;t come running to me when youapos;re in trouble." He started to turn away. "Canapos;t believe I called you a friend. Since youapos;ve met the others, youapos;ve changed." He walked out of the room and went to the kitchen. Wes was loitering at the sink.
"Hey, whatapos;s up?" Wes said.
"Hey." The boy went to the fridge.
"You look pissed."
"Thatapos;s because I cease to exist in some peoples eyes."
"Yeah itapos;s tough being imaginary." Wes smiled, and took a sip of his beer. He turned and looked at the boy. The boy gave him an odd look. "What?"
"Hey iapos;m going to go find Phil. Come find me in the boudoir." Wes walked off.
"What are you talking about? You freak" The boy shouted out at him.
He stood in the kitchen, safe in the knowledge that what Wes said was bullshit and that he wasnapos;t imaginary. Even if the drugs make it feel like everything else is.

Since I absolutely cannot get focused on work this morning, Iapos;ll post about the event instead.
The event was really good. There were some class hiccups, and my Indian "tea and book social" didnapos;t make it into the printed on-site schedule, which somehow made the class-crat believe I had canceled it, which I had not. I was very glad I made it to the event as one of the multiple-class teachers had the stomach flu and if we both hadnapos;t made it the number of classes would have been drastically reduced. As it was, my Indian book social ended up being scheduled for three hours. That ended up being a pleasant surprise, as it gave people time to really sit and talk more deeply than they would have in just an hour-long time slot. Lalita Dasa and I also got to have some deep garb geeking time, which feeds my soul. There just arenapos;t that many people I can seriously deeply geek with. She stretched my brain. It was goooood.

The feast was an experience. All Roman, almost all straight from Apicius, which the cook had done heavy recipe testing on. Five courses, twelve or thirteen separate dishes. He runs an excellent kitchen, no serious meltdowns, everything on or ahead of schedule. I was able to talk him down from a "ohfuckit Iapos;m just throwing it away" moment with one of the dishes which Iapos;m thankful for, it turned out delicious if more labor-intensive than planned (cream of wheat, cooked and left to chill and set up, then sliced and fried and drizzled with honey and pepper. It failed to set firmly.) This was one of those serious "many hands make light work" feasts, and I am so thankful this Barony has a lot of people who are experienced cooks and actually enjoy helping in the kitchen. I was impressed and tickled beyond belief that the two newbie girls- one in early Chinese and one in formal Heian Japanese- tied their huge sleeves back with ribbons and jumped right in the kitchen work. There were a lot of leftovers, and I think the cook was disappointed and upset by this... It was a vegetable-heavy feast, and they were mostly unpopular vegetables (turnips, carrots, fava beans and brussel sprouts) and even though they were cooked exceptionally well most people did little more than taste them. This was an important lesson to me

I called Mistress Marina last night and we started talking about Gulf Wars. Omggulfwarsomg. Itapos;s five months away. Garb for three kids for five days, for cold and hot and wet weather. Icbhodapos;s garb needs serious help, he must have a new Landsknecht outfit and several caftans of the style he has chosen. I have currently one choli that fits and two skirts that I even want to be seen in. My Mamluk outfit is still only 2/3 finished and has been languishing in the project box for years now. My only decent Indo-Persian (the Court of Ghiyath Shahi one) is unwearably-too-big. Starting the non-European SBapos;s will make me sew more. I now have a working sewing machine that can handle anything. We have sufficient resources that if I need something, I can just buy it rather than having to wait for weeks or months for new fabric.

With the election just two days away, thereapos;s basically no time left for anything to happen. Unless Stephen Harper beats up an artist with a baby seal while in Quebec, no event will sway voters. What remains to be seen is how Canadians are going to decide to vote, and that might not solidify until tomorrow night at Thanksgiving dinner when talk turns to politics.

Hereapos;s what I can tell you. Right now, we are on track for another Conservative minority government. I suspect they are going to gain a couple seats, but overall this election is going to be a defeat for them, because when Harper called it (breaking the spirit, if not the rule of his apos;fixed electionapos; legislation) he was facing a number of weak parties, and he personally topped out the ratings of the party leaders. Now, his party is going to have to fight to earn any seats.

The Liberal party is also going to have to fight to hold itapos;s seats, but itapos;s come back from literally deathapos;s doorstep a few weeks ago. Stephanne Dion has proven himself to be capable under the right cirumstances, and appears to have finally hit his stride as leader. Still, their partyapos;s organization is poor, and theyapos;re facing the prospect of bleeding votes on all sides. The New Democrats are the likely beneficiary of those votes, having run probably the most gaffe-free campaign. The Bloc Quebecois, which was threatened with being badly beaten when this campaign began, is now resurgent and could pick up seats. And the Green party is struggling to hold onto itapos;s support in the last days and will be hard-pressed to win even a single seat.

The only real question now is whether voters will swing in the last day, and if they do, how many of them. If Stephen Harper looks like he might win a majority, or is looking particularily strong, voters might swing from the New Democrats to the Liberals, which was precisely what happened in the last election. This time, that doesnapos;t seem as likely, New Democrat support has been particularily solid, if not exactly rising. Of course, the New Democrats and the Liberals both have lost voters to the Greens, who are now facing the exact same dilemna, whether to swing back to the parties that are most likely to win. The fate of this election now stands in their hands. Itapos;s entirely possible, although unlikely, that enough voters could swing to the Liberals to swing them into a very weak minority government, but I donapos;t think that will happen.

With that said, I give you my predictions for seat totals. I will also give you how many seats the parties gain or lose. Keep in mind that several seats were empty prior to the electin call so that will not add up to 308, the number of seats in the house of commons.

Conservatives: 132 (+5)
Liberals: 90 (-5)
NDP: 34 (+4)
Bloc Quebecois: 51 (+3)
Green: 0 (-1)
Indepedent: 1 (0)

In other words, iapos;m not expecting a lot of change in this election. Province-by-province polling is showing the parties standing more or less close to where they were when the last election was called.

Now, here are a couple of things to watch out for, mostly as side interest.

Elizabeth May Vs. Peter MacKay
May, the leader of the Green Party, made the poor decision to face off against Peter MacKay, the former leader of the Progressive Conservative party and now the Minister of Defence. MacKay is a very popular cabinet minister, and his family has deep ties in his riding. Stacked against that is that party leaders tend to win their seats, and May was widely regarded as having had a good preformance at the leaderapos;s debate. Furthermore, the Liberal party agreed not to run a candidate in this riding. The question, then, is whether the Liberal voters, as well as New Democrat voters, will swing behind May. Even if this happens itapos;ll be immensely close, but a May victory here would be a huge upset and would mark the first elected Green MP.

Linda Duncan Vs. Rahim Jaffer
This is particularily interesting because itapos;s in Edmonton. Alberta is not known for voting for anyone other than Conservatives, but thereapos;s been a big attempt to get Liberal voters to swing behind the NDPapos;s Duncan, who lost last time by less than 5000 votes in a province where Conservatives tend to win by much bigger margins. This, too, is a long shot, but personally I think Duncan has a fair shot at this seat.

Justin Trudeau Vs. Vivian Barbot
Trudeau, son of the late Prime Minister, is a very popular person here in Canada. Heapos;s young and charismatic, and this is his first foray into politics. Liberals would love to see him lead their party someday. But thatapos;s in the future, and right now heapos;s fighting to take a seat from incumbent Bloc candidate Barbot. This riding was very close in the last election, and I expect Trudeauapos;s name to win it, but stranger things have happened.


Okay I must get ready for turkey. If I can think of any other races worth watching I will mention them.
